Hydromulch and Hydroseeding explained:
Hydromulch (also known as Hydraulic mulch) consists of small pieces of cellulose fibres, which can be made completely from wood waste or recovered paper. In the process of hydroseeding, a mixture of water, seeds, and hydraulic mulch is sprayed over bare soil to quickly promote plant growth. Hydroseeding is commonly used to re-vegetate along medians, embankments and roadways. Hydraulic mulch stabilizes soil, prevents wind and water erosion and provides protection and warmth for seeds, helping them grow. Hydraulic mulch also controls weeds, reducing or eliminating the need for pesticides.
Hydroseeding is an excellent alternative to using sod and often a better choice. When comparing hydroseeding to instant turf, hydroseeding takes less time to apply, provides uniform growth and provides moisture. The hydroseeding mix or "slurry" holds the seed, fertiliser and soil in place during rain and repeated watering. This hydroseed mulch nurtures the growing seeds and holds them in place during showers and heavy rain to reduce the risk of a patchy lawn.
Rapid Lawn New Zealand provides hydroseeding, spray-on lawns, hydromulching, slope stabilisation, erosion control and grass seeding for domestic, commercial, golf courses, council work, and playing fields. We use a high-quality mix of mulch, fertiliser, seed and water. Organic additives are mixed together promoting rapid germination and moisture retention while binding the hydroseed "slurry" mix to the prepared soil.
Our machinery:
Our professional hydroseeding machines are manufactured by Easy Lawn in the U.S.A. and range from 300 to 3300 gallon capacities. Our jet agitation (Turfmaster and Landscaper Series) Hydroseeding units have poly tanks and Robin engines and the mechanical Hydroseeding units (Contractor Series) feature stainless steel tanks and mulch grinders with John Deere engines.

Our Tank Systems:
Our tanks are also an important part of our system. We offer polyurethane lined steel, stainless steel, and polyethylene tanks. We strongly recommend our polyethylene tanks because they do not rust and corrode like steel tanks do. Our poly tanks are manufactured with a thicker wall than a standard poly ag tank which helps increase tank life. If you ever do have to replace a tank, it is simple because either of our tanks are removeable. Our competitors steel tank machines are welded together, so you cannot replace the tank. A steel tank must be rebuilt from the inside out which is quite an expensive process. Most steel tank machines have a coating on the inside to prevent corrosion. However, this coating wears off with the abrasive materials used in the hydroseeding mixture, so it has to be re-coated regularly.
Easy Care:
Once lawn has been sprayed, it's easy to care for. It just needs to be regularly watered, mowed and fed. The first 21 days are vitally important as the germinating seedlings cannot be allowed to dry out or they will die.
Winter Season:
Please note that in the winter months the lawn may take from 6-8 weeks to get even germination. This is because the ground/soil temperatures are low due to the frosts, and the cooler weather. Please be patient with your newly hydroseeded lawn. In some cases, as the seeds may lay dormant in the soil for up to 6 months and will then germinate.
